Review on πŸ“Έ eRapta ER0202: Advanced Split Screen Backup Camera System with Monitor for RV Truck Trailer Tractor 5th Wheel - Rear and Side Wired Cameras, 4 Channels by Juan Simpson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great upgrade to replace an old RV cam

Background: My original 2008 Jayco Class C B&W single camera system needed a major upgrade. I used an Erapta 202 to replace the rear camera with two Erapta cameras using the cable originally fitted and also added mirror mounted side cameras to allow for lane changes. An additional simple circuit was required so that the side cameras only fire when changing lanes. I use them with the "normal" rear view on the road, which is used all the time when the side and rear views are activated by turn signals or reversing. Product Review: The Erapta 202 is a well built product, especially for the price. . The overall system can display combinations of one to four cameras (easily selectable and configurable from the monitor) and also has "trigger" lines that can be used to automatically switch cameras when reversing or turning on the turn signals (although on my car and most others, you'll need to add some simple circuitry to make this work properly). The monitor is large enough to see clearly, the colors are very good and the brightness is good even in bright daylight. I was able to modify an existing original monitor mount (needed some cutting) to fit a larger Erapta monitor with a different aspect ratio. Cables are provided for all cameras; In this case I used the only original 4 wire cable that was fitted to run the cable through the car to the two cameras I used in the back (one on the road, the other just behind the car). I'll add photos as soon as I can figure out how to do it in an existing review; at the moment it doesn't allow you to take photos. The chambers are well constructed, although I had an issue with one of them "fogging up" on the inside after a few months outdoors. Erapta customer service immediately FedEx shipped a replacement along with a 'gift' camera that was offered in the original packaging but never delivered. Thanks to the support service for the quick exchange. The aspect ratio of the camera is 16:9, so it offers a good view up close, but not a good view from a distance. For my purposes, however, it was a great rear view upgrade that could be left on at all times while driving. I was worried about installing cameras on the side mirrors, I was worried about the vibration while driving. However, the cameras run consistently stable, so that this concern was unfounded. All in all a very good system and a great update. I have provided photos and upgrade diagrams. You'll need to be nimble enough to perform this upgrade as it involves cutting wires and soldering, as well as some simple circuit assembly and installation. Also, you need to "find" the correct wiring in your car to connect the turn signals and power to the system. Not difficult but long. Routing the wires for the turn signals also required some work, again just tedious but not difficult. I was really impressed with the performance and quality of the system and it was a huge improvement in my safety on the bus.

Pros
  • Lots of good vibes
Cons
  • No performance
