After trying a few cheaper options I bought two JSAUX 4' Lightning cables. I wanted something that is MFI certified, charges quickly, and lasts a long time. I was initially very happy with these cables, except as others have noted they are "hot". But a few nights ago, one of the charging cables shorted out and caught fire (a real blaze, not just a meltdown) while I was using my iPad. The cable appears to be shorted at the junction of the braid and connector. It immediately caught fire like a bengal fire and even burned my hand that touched it as it happened. I tried blowing out the small flame quickly but it wouldn't go out until the cord was disconnected from the charger and water got on it. I am adding photos to show the results. Even more frightening was this iPad being charged on the couch while my wife and I were away from home in the early evening. I've done this many times, as have many others. Had this happened a few hours earlier, the sofa bed might have caught fire. I hope this is an isolated case, but at least one did. Therefore, please handle with care and DO NOT use these cables unattended!
