Cheapest hi-fi streamer, alternative to Sonos or Bluesound

UPDATE: It's been a few months and this device is working almost perfectly. The worst complaint is that it sometimes lags when streaming, but it probably has more to do with my internet strength. There will never be any problems connecting to the network or being recognized by the phone application. That's 80% Sonos functionality for 30% of the cost. I will take him! I don't write many product reviews and I was very hesitant to purchase this device due to the lack of reviews. However, I already have an AudioPro speaker, the T-10, and with this unit I was able to stream to my living room hi-fi system over Wi-Fi, as well as connect to my NAS and multiple streaming services, and enable multi. Room and share playback more smoothly with my spouse. With the Bluetooth setup, it was more intuitive for one person. You just plug in your phone and control everything with your phone. However, your phone needs to be active and within range, and phone calls and message notifications will interfere with the audio. This can be annoying and cause a lot of battery drain. And you can't just share the replay with others. With this device you'll need to use the AudioPro app which isn't perfect but it gets the job done, especially for internet radio and basic streaming services. And you have to use Wi-Fi, but that offers the best sound quality anyway. Unlike my T-10 speaker, there is no Bluetooth connection here. A lot of reviews I've seen (not just Revain) have complained about this device not being able to reconnect or be identified by your phone. I also encountered this problem but found that I had to update the device firmware. So the trick is to connect for the first time, then go to the device settings and look for the big red "New" notification. It wasn't obvious to me at first, but a simple click on the word "New" activated the update process and I haven't had any trouble connecting to the device since. The app isn't as perfect as Sonos, but I've read a lot of negative reviews about the Bluesound app, so I'm inclined to think that everyone but Sonos is struggling with their apps. This has worked fairly reliably over the years that I've had both the speaker and the Link 1. The app doesn't have all the major US music streaming services, but it does have many major ones and some obscure ones. I'll stick with it, but there's still a very good case for a Bluetooth connection.

  • Nice
Cons
  • Good but not great
