They are a bit quieter when it comes to audiobooks/podcasts. This is usually tolerable since the noise canceling works quite well, but in very noisy environments they are only suitable for music. The pause button is also annoying. It sits squarely in the center of the volume buttons with no real difference in depth or discernible features, making it easy to press quickly and reliably. Sometimes it also has a big delay: you have to unpause, click again where the playback starts but immediately pauses, and then click again to resume playback. If you press them just once, it can take up to half a minute before you get a response. Very annoying.
