Review on Exceptional Performance: Mad Rock Drone High Volume Climbing Shoe by Brock Chisholm

Revainrating 5 out of 5

My first pair of aggressive boots

Have been using these for over a month now. So far, so good. I chose this review as there is not much information about it. About me: Sophomore climber, mostly bouldering routes with more overhang/steeper angles, near average but still new to technique and route reading. My shoe knowledge is MINIMAL so you'll probably need to try on a few shoes rather than relying solely on the internet for shoe selection. Fit: I wear street shoes in size 9 (42€). Also wear them in a size 9. The fit is snug (it was a bit worn but I don't feel the shoe stretches much). I have fairly narrow feet and can't imagine I would fit in the LV version of this shoe in terms of toe box. You must be very narrow. When climbing, I have to rest between every pair of routes or something. Coming off beginner's shoes (La Sportiva Tarantulas), it's a bit annoying, but you can definitely see the benefits on the wall. So much stickier on the supports. My setting technique (accuracy) is not quite adapted to the new shoes, but it is getting better and better. Shoe Features: That extra ridge lets you snap your heel hooks like a champ. The hooks on the fingers are also very simple. This shoe will really shine on steeper trails. If you do a lot of slab or computer climbing, there are sure to be better shoes out there for that style, but overall they're pretty good for most climbing styles. Durability: This is a question mark. I hope they last a year. I do indoor climbing 2-3 times a week, let's see. No signs of significant wear after about a month. Cost: I've looked at the Scarpa Viper and La Sportiva Skwama but the prices are a bit higher. I can't compare how they climb, but I like the price of the drone much better. They'll likely drop on Black Friday, so if you're looking for a deal you can probably get one.
