Review on Ohala Portable Player Speaker Support by Kunjan Alston

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I would buy this again. Just set your expectations realistically.

Update from 03/02/18:============= After 9 months still working as good as the day I received it and I use it every weekday. Evening. I hope it lasts a few years but time will tell. At this point I can say that I can recommend this little radio without reservation. while I'm at work. I lower the antenna and put it in my pocket and it's still receiving reasonably well. (I'm NOT sure if my previous observation that the headphones act like an antenna when plugged in is correct.) I really like that this is a portable pocket radio with enough volume to play from your pocket . I've never run out of battery after playing 4-5 hours at a fairly high volume (I charge it every night). Two "add-ons" I'd like are a lock feature so accidental button presses don't affect settings, and the ability to selectively erase presets that the autoscan feature finds. But for the price I'm very happy and I REALLY miss it when I come to work and realize I accidentally forgot it at home. ORIGINAL REVIEW:================ =PROS: o Inexpensive o Has a built in speaker and decent sound FOR PURPOSE o Works like an MP3 player o Separate on/off switch o Rotary control for volume, maybe more convenient than the number keys CONS: o The station preset is automatically set by -scan and cannot be adjusted to your preferences o The volume control seems to affect the balance when using earphones/headphones at maximum volume HEY GUYS, THIS RADIO IS FOR $17! So set your expectations accordingly. I'm not trying to criticize anyone who has posted a review, just for those of you who have read it and are considering purchasing this item. I would love to sound high fidelity but. The motivation for my purchase was definitely to have a very small radio to take to work (I do commercial cleaning) and I wanted to be able to use it without headphones or earphones. The sound is very similar to "transistor radio". Again, the sound is pretty impressive for its size and gets pretty loud. With the internal speaker, the bass is better than expected but still quite weak. I have a pair of Monk Plus Ollivan C3254 VE Monk 3.5mm In-Ear Jack Hi-Fi Stereo Headphones with Bass, Noise Isolating, Clear Classic In-Ear Headphones for iPods, tablets, mp3 players, mp4 players and older iPhones (these are AWESOME cheap headphones) and a pair of Grado SR60e over-ear headphones Grado SR60e headphones (also VERY impressive for the price) and the sound is vastly improved. . The autoscan created a couple of "fake" stations (there must be *something* it's locked to, but only statically when selected), and one where the strong station had a memory due to signal strength with the closest frequency created with the correct frequency, also creating a memory preset. I really wish I could get rid of those superfluous memory presets, but since I mostly only listen to one station it means it doesn't disrupt the show. When plugged in, the headphone cable acts as an antenna and you can lower the metal rod antenna and insert it into the jack. Headphone reception is better than antenna reception. At the moment I'm not interested in using the device's MP3 player feature, but I may try at some point. All in all a very satisfactory purchase.
