These blankets worked great for my 4 male rat's bedding. I cut some of them into smaller pieces and use them as nesting material in baskets. The fleece is soft and pretty durable. The boys enjoy them. They do get full of urine quickly and need to be washed every few days which is why buying these larger blankets and cutting them into many pieces helps so I always have enough. I suspect it's more the fact that I have four males who mark constantly that make the smell, not the blankets themself, but they do retain urine odor if you don't wash well enough. I wash with normal laundry detergent and pet odor detergent as well.
