We don't use salt very often in our kitchen, but we wanted a nice salt grinder for when we do - and for guests who want salt. The small size of this model perfectly meets these requirements. The aesthetics of the mill are simple and beautiful; the natural beauty of wood really shines. The only thing that worries me is that the moving parts are made of plastic - although it looks strong and solid, only time will tell about its durability. The ability to change course is an added bonus; Since it was made in Maine (where we live), it was the obvious choice. I would definitely recommend this grinder as a gift as well (housewarming, new independent friends or family, newlyweds, etc.)
