I understand they are for pacifiers but I bought them for a different purpose. My son is on the autism spectrum and uses gum to calm himself down. This keeps it with him and available when he needs it, but always close at hand when he's not using it. If they can handle it well enough for a 13 year old, they can definitely handle a child's attention.
