I don't know why, they are no thinner than any other well made mouse/desk pad. i love fat They look elegant on my living room table, no longer need to rely on coasters, just place your drink on the table. The finished piping is nice and unobtrusive. If they made one big enough for my keyboard I would buy one at work. An inexpensive way to bring comfort to the office. That's great. (I bought 2) Highly recommend. The back is rubber so it doesn't slip.
