Review on πŸ‘œ Domke 700-30D F-3X Super Compact Bag - Olive Drab: The Ultimate Carry-All Solution! by Christian Barnes

Revainrating 2 out of 5

High quality, low performance.

Domke F-3X of excellent quality and materials but poor protection, padding and performance. I bought this bag after reading the excellent reviews here on Revain. After receiving it for the first time, I liked it. However, after a few weeks I started using it less and less and eventually switched to something better due to uncomfortable top valve clips and generally just worried about the safety of my gear inside. Cons: 1. This bag itself is heavy, just doesn't have enough padding and doesn't hold its shape well. In just a few weeks of use, the material softened and held less of its shape. The outer perimeter of the bag has no padding, including the top flap. I wouldn't call the bottom of the bag soft, but it's made out of cheap, very hard cardboard that can be removed. There is a removable soft insert for lenses etc but it is of poor quality. I know Domke offers additional compartment inserts, but I didn't feel like investing more in this bag.2. I think the two military style clips that attach the top flap make it an awkward but necessary method of securing the flap and gear in this bag. If you carry this bag over your shoulder, these two clips will be difficult to detach and you could get trapped! In my opinion a shoulder bag should be very easy to open when carrying it, but it isn't.3. If you have heavy photo gear inside, you should use clips for the top flap, Velcro alone (under the flap) does not hold the top flap securely enough. A simple zipper would be much better here.4. An expensive bag given the lack of features and padding. Advantages: 1. Spacious.2. Can be better for light photography equipment.3. The military/primitive style makes this bag great, but the ballistic nylon, zippers, and foam make it more functional and lightweight.4. Uses high quality material. The rubber threads sewn into the shoulder strap cleverly prevent slipping. Comments: I would not recommend this bag unless you have a chance to try it on yourself and see if it fits you before you buy it. If you prefer a classic camera bag and value neither functionality nor protection, this bag is just right for you. It's really unique and one of a kind in terms of looks, but I wouldn't trust my expensive DSLR gear to this bag. SLR camera and equipment. I swapped out my DSLR for something more modern and secure.
