What were they thinking?

Well, an interesting design solution. They make a solid, well made, beautiful metal Chevy bow tie. They then give you a two piece thin plastic insert. Yes, two things. So I glued the two pieces together and screwed the bow tie on. Looks great. Problem. If you use a non-locking hitch pin to secure this, you can make two trips to any parking lot anywhere in the US and it'll be gone in sixty seconds. If someone kicks this game, it will break easily. Or, if you have a locking pin, all you have to do is twist the fly and it will pop out of the fragile plastic insert. The only consolation is that the abuser has to adapt it to something in order to be able to reuse it. Well, if nobody rips it off, you don't accidentally kick it, then it can stay in your truck for about 3 to 6 months. That's why the plastic insert is so thin that with normal driving, the screw holes in the plastic will surely start to crack and one day you'll hear a rattle, look in your rear-view mirror and your butterfly will hop down the street. So spend 15-20 dollars more and buy an all-metal case. Well, if you're not planning on driving your car, it looks great. If you have a car dealership and want to decorate a demo car, that's fine. My only consolation with this purchase is that I had $30 in credit, so the cap and locking pin only cost me $14 plus some loose change. So if the cover rips or falls off the truck the money I paid was less than what the locking pin was worth. If that happens, I'll get an all-metal lid. Looks great, not practical and certainly not durable. (ie waste of time and money) Even an aluminum insert improves this part. I can't imagine what the manufacturer was thinking of this thing. I'm pretty sure it's made in Taiwan, so I suspect they laugh and say "stupid Americans" every time they sell it. If it wasn't for the $30 loan I had I would have been pissed and returned it or threw it in the trash to avoid the hassle of returning this piece of crap.

Pros
  • Practical thing
Cons
  • There is a negative
