Review on AKG K361BT Bluetooth Studio Headphones - Over-Ear, Closed-Back, and Foldable by Travis Petty

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Initial muddy sound. Break time. Nothing for audiophiles. But still good headphones.

Review in one sentence: Give him a chance to get used to it. These are my favorite hiking headphones. They are comfortable (they still sweat a little in hot weather) and durable. The sound is pretty good (still not as good as my AKG k702 but I can't walk around with the K702 as they are open). Would I buy them again? Yes. Maybe. They are closed, so the soundstage is small. I understand being spoiled by my open back, huge soundstage and headphones. They don't use much power so you can use them with your mobile phones to play music without an amplifier (no microphone. Remember). In general they are pretty good. Still a bit muddy in the low end, but as I said, I was spoiled for choice with my open-back headphones. Old rating. I've been using AKG products for 20 years. I just received the K371 today and while they're comfortable and feel solid, I noticed a lot of muddyness across the wide range of sounds. Especially the lower area. Maybe it's because they're closed (my AKG K702s sound MUCH better), or maybe they need a break-in period. But it's not just flat sound. I seem to hear them, even with a piece of tissue paper in my earbuds. There will be an update in a few days but if they don't improve I'll have to send them back. Update: A few days later and the sound has improved a bit, it's still very "sound in your head". Some dirt is still there, but it seems to be getting better. The sound stage is small. It's nothing subjective. Literally indistinctly come across some notes. These are good headphones but unlike some other reviewers these are NOT audiophile headphones. I wouldn't even say they are good for reference. They fit well over headphones and are very comfortable (apart from sweating in the ears caused by the leather ear pads). In comparison, the AKG K702 are audiophile headphones and I hear sounds in them that I can't hear in these headphones. I've been listening to the Grado headphones and they sound great too (I'll buy a pair of these when I have the money) but both of these headphones are open ended and not good for walking. Buy the K371 if you want decent (and I mean GOOD) headphones that are sturdy. They come with three cables, some of which are as little as $40. So the three cables should cost at least $75 if you buy them separately. Short, straight cable. Long straight cord and coiled cord (which is great). You can use them with standard 3.5" and 1/4" plugs. I'm disappointed? Yes. But they're not terrible. The soundproofing and extra cables make it a worthwhile purchase. Although the build quality is excellent. Save for these ear pads. Leather on closed headphones? For real?
