Delicate and Beautiful Sand Dollar Jewelry

My daughter wanted an "Ariel" motif when she was four years old. Searched the internet for party ideas. While party favors have become the norm, I'm not a big fan of spending big bucks on bags of junk for party favors that get thrown out the day after the party. I saw a blog where someone turned sand dollars into jewelry. Growing up in Florida, I remember scouring the beach for sea urchins. Finding a whole sea dollar is like finding a treasure chest. I was so excited to take this idea and use it for our party. I bought yarn from a local craft store and easily turned it into decorations for 8 kids who came to the party. They were thrilled as most of them had never seen an entire sea urchin (now we live in the Midwest). In addition, few people seem to have been told about the "doves" that are in the sea urchins. I had a few left and my co-workers were so intrigued when I told them about the "pigeons" that I brought one to open so they could look inside. They are so authentic and seem to delight adults as much as children!
