Review on 🚡 Sram MTB Gx Type 2.1 Long Cage Rear Derailleur: High-Performance Gear Shifting for Mountain Bikes by William Whisperer

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Who needs X0? The 12-speed GX Eagle works just as well with the same benefits as the 12-speed, all for about $375!

The SRAM GX Eagle 12 speed rear derailleur arrived in great packaging and the product itself is positioned almost like a presentation. Installation was easy; Hi/Lo screws are easily adjusted like any other switch. As a bonus, thanks to the included spacing tool, adjusting the B tension screw was seamless and only took a few seconds. The B-pull distance is important; When set perfectly, I found upshifts and downshifts crisp and precise, with no chain jumps, no missed shifts, and no half-shifts. Like the 11 speed GX rear derailleur I replaced, it also has a push button lockout to get the pulleys out of the way when the wheel is removed. Speaking of which, the bottom pulley has a narrow, wide tooth pattern that grips the chain to keep it secure during those rough rides. Improvement/update it was! At an entry-level price (around $375 for a groupset without cranks), the entire GX Eagle system works so well it feels just like the X01 Eagle system, but without the gold jewelry and most importantly at a very affordable price. Shifting is crisp and pleasant. The transmission noise is actually surprisingly quiet. With a wide range of gears (and a 50t cog!) I can tackle more hills for longer periods of time with less effort. I'm totally happy with this upgrade to the GX Eagle, it looks like SRAM made the 12 speed reliable and wallet friendly. I wish this group had been installed a long time ago! A NOTICE. I bought a 12-speed GX Eagle rear derailleur, a 12-speed XG-1275 GX Eagle cassette, a 12-speed GX Eagle trigger rear derailleur, and a 12-speed GX Eagle. Chain. Some of these reviews are repeated in my reviews for other items.

Pros
  • Cage Lock - The technology in the rear derailleur makes removing and installing wheels and installing the chain faster and easier.
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
