What I have found is that it is most comfortable when full enough

I have been carrying this backpack for about a year and a half. This is my first "real" travel backpack, enough for a day trip. I took it on an overnight trip last month and have done more than 20 day hikes since buying it. What I've found is that it's actually most comfortable when it's full enough. If I don't pack a lot, it doesn't sit as well on my body. (I'm 5ft 6in, for other women who asked about size/fit). I chose this backpack because the price was really reasonable for those unsure how to get to night hikes and because it's orange. I travel alone with my dog about 1/3 of the time and the orange color is a great safety measure not only when hiking in areas where they may hunt but also in case you are injured and need something to see you. . This and it came with a rain fly and stuff sack at no extra charge. Brilliant! One feature I really like is that the zippered pocket on the top of the pack has a key fob/key clip with a quick release button so the ring stays on my keys when I'm not camping and I can just take my house keys with me when I am need them without worrying about them getting lost in the bag because they are strapped inside. I also take a lot of photos and I like the fact that I can easily attach a tripod to the outside of my lower back. On my overnight tour I took with me: 3 liter tank full Extra water bottle in the side pocket 1 change of clothes Hammock Tarpaulin + rope Sleeping bag (in the compression bag) Provisions for 2 people and a dog Camera (Canon 60D - quite heavy! ) Tripod There are a few things that I would like to change or add: Straps over the mesh side pockets to protect against tall water bottles and/or to attach trekking poles to the sides. Belt pouch for quick access to items. It would be great if the built in key fob was in a pocket on the shoulder strap rather than at the top. My front door requires keys to be locked when I leave and there is no way to put the keys in the top of the backpack when you're already carrying it. Ideally, the hip belt pocket should be large enough for my cell phone. There is no really practical pocket for my cell phone. For the most part I really like this backpack and have benefited a lot from it. A bungee or two on the main body of the backpack would also be useful for random items. as needed. I really like this pack and have benefited a lot from it. For $60 I have nothing to complain about! When I start night hikes - especially when I'm doing things without my partner to carry some of the heavier items - I see that I need a backpack bigger than that 35L.
