Read below if you're having trouble activating at AT&T!

I bought this to replace an old Samsung tablet with an AT&T but putting in the old SIM card didn't work. The tablet showed a cellular signal, but there is no data. So I took it to my local AT&T store to see what they could do. It turned out that we had two problems that we needed to solve. First, this tablet considers itself a mobile phone, not a tablet. It wasn't obvious to the AT&T agent, but I remembered that the description was about phone calls. So I suggested trying the SIM card from my phone in a tablet, which immediately updated in the AT&T system. They were very surprised to see a fully functional dialer on this tablet. Because this tablet works as a phone and not just a tablet, I had to change my plan from one line with the tablet to 2 phone lines, which cost $5. /month more than single line plan + tablet. Just for your information. The second problem is that after realizing that it had to be activated as a mobile phone, they had trouble matching the SIM and IMEI numbers. They don't know why that is. But what the agent finally did to get around this problem was activate a new imei sim from my old broken phone and put that sim in the new tablet. At the same time, he restarted the tablet, which immediately showed full-fledged 4g LTE service! (The device came brand new, in a sealed retail box, so I see no reason to believe the imei is "bad", just the AT&T system had problems receiving. It is an internationally unlocked device, which might matter.) But whatever, I ended up with a working tablet. It's a much better and newer device than the old version of the Tab A currently sold by AT&T (at about the same price), and it costs a lot less than the S5e, Samsung's mid-range tablet that AT&T offers.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad but...
