Review on ๐ŸŽต Black Micca OriGain 50W x 2 Compact Stereo Integrated Amplifier by Shawn Sanders

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Small is good (and cheap) in this line.

I bought this to replace a SMSL Class D mini amp of the same power. The SMSL is sent to a new location. I like the sound of the OriGain amp more than the SMSL. I've been an audio fanatic for 50 years. I know what sounds good and what doesn't. I'm not buying "bragging rights" audio (snake oil). Most of these very expensive components are excellent, but I prefer to pick my gems out of the dirt rather than buying them from a jewelry store. If you think you can hear a significant difference between the right size copper wire and pure silver wire, then by all means buy silver. I have been impressed with the Micca products including this OriGain amp. Is that my reference amp? No, my reference amplifier is based on vacuum tubes. It's a no-frills amp that I can listen to without getting annoyed or offended. It's in one of my "alternative places" where I still want (good) music, but not in my "critical listening room". If you are still using MP3 files as your music source, then trust me, this is the best amplifier you will ever need (for listening to MP3 files). There's just enough power for reasonable volume in a small room (perhaps up to 160 square feet depending on speaker efficiency). There's no tone control, so you may need to experiment with speaker placement to get a balanced sound. A great desktop amp that takes up very little space. The power supply is external and actually has enough power to maintain the amplifier's full power rating with no voltage. This is NOT a "50 watt amp" with a 20 watt power supply (yes, that's impossible). I have no way of describing the sound other than that after 5 minutes or 5 hours I feel NO almost uncontrollable urge to turn it off. Nothing sounds "wrong" to me.

Pros
  • Impressive
Cons
  • Boring Package
