Received this white balance tool today. Limited use at the moment but as far as I can see it does the job. First impression: * Part of the filter looks like it's seen in an opaque fluorescent light diffuser * The insert looks like it fits into the plastic holder * The filter is completely surrounded by the plastic sleeve * Includes a lanyard to wear during of use * Cloth strap including filter holder.* The overall size of the filter is 4" x 4"* The size of the insert is 3" x 3" (plus 1/16" or so)* The holder has slits on one side for inserting a sheet of filter to heat or cool the set white balance to achieve the desired effect* Subject heating and cooling is an artistic technique of the photographer can be applied to different results of the final product My test equipment and shooting conditions : * Canon Rebel T5 (1200D) camera * Canon 18-55MM IS II kit lens -- image stabilization was on * All light measurements were either taken or he verifies my Sekonic L-478D incident light meter* NO flash used* ISO 800, F5.6 at 1/4 second shutter speed (because Revain removes EXIF information from all published images)* Test shots were handheld, autofocus enabled in Live View mode * Kiorafoto white balance filter - manual focus used when using the filter (Image #3)* Color temperature of ambient light used was approximately 2700K mixed between LED and Fluorescent lights* All photos were converted to Canon RAW format (CR2 file) in JPEG without ANY post-processing of RAW photos. In this controlled environment, I took three test shots. They are as follows: * The first shot was taken with full AWB and aperture priority shutter exposure checked with a Sekonic exposure meter. * The second shot was taken with manual exposure and custom white balance correction in a camera with this filter. *The last shot was taken with a custom white balance, the whites in your camera is what the camera sees. You see, the mixed colors on my DVD shelf were the subject of choice. The first image with a stronger yellow cast was an in-camera automatic white balance (AWB) image. The camera analyzes the general preview scene of the first photo and automatically adjusts the AWB color temperature to around 5500K - the daylight/outdoor temperature range. For the second image, the temperature corrected for the custom white balance was around 2710K, which is much closer to the color temperature of the ambient light and gives a much better and more accurate result. Which of the two pictures from the DVD shelf do you like best? The third image was the filter as seen by the camera when the picture is taken with the filter in the correct position. You can see that this filter fills the entire frame. If you see this result in the photo, it means you placed the filter correctly. The color temperature of this filter will vary depending on the area of the image, but in general the actual average color temperature is balanced across the entire light source hitting the filter. . It seems to be working properly, but I won't know until I get more shots in different lighting conditions. One point, if you're taking a filtered photo with this set of filters, you'll need to disable autofocus (switch to manual focus mode) or your camera will go crazy trying to focus on the filter and fail. Don't forget to turn autofocus back on when you're done adjusting your custom white balance. I read that others had problems with this filter. This is my first time doing this until I re-read the Custom White Balance section of the instruction manual. After I did that, everything worked fine. On my Canon, this is a multi-step process involving entering and exiting menus. With practice, you will learn to walk down stairs. I'm better now but it will take more mistakes before I get it right every time. Overall I am happy with this filter. Once I have more time with him in the field I will update my review.
