Review on πŸ–¨οΈ Brother Compact Monochrome Laser Printer HLL2395DW: Flatbed Copy & Scan, Wireless Printing, NFC, Cloud-Based Printing & Scanning - BLACK by Paul Ajayi

Revainrating 5 out of 5

After decades of jet madness, I've had enough! HL2395 is my laser savior!

Yes, after more than two decades of using inkjet printers personally and professionally in various work environments, both as a personal geek and as an IT support specialist, I am finally fed up with the inkjet craze. got fired at christmas this year and started looking for a job and grappling with this fiasco only to find my 4 ink was worth over $60 and then god knows how much time troubleshooting, running test prints and wasting tons of ink and money trying to clean the dried heads of my $120 Canon Pixma printer, I finally broke, MORE Enough! I've been an IT professional for over 14 years and have worked with many Brothers over the years and while I'm somewhat biased against HP Laserjets, Brother laser printers rank in my book as reliable, durable, easy to troubleshoot and repair. and also damn good initial cost compared to other brands namely Canon and HP. I've worked with many MFC models over the past ten years and the more basic HL printer series is pretty much the same as the MFC series. After doing my research as always, I decided to spend the extra cash on the popular but older 2014-2015 HL-L2380DW https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HRG01A4/ as there were two key differences between them . this model and the newer HL-L2395DW1. Processor speed has been increased from 266MHz on the 2380 to 600MHz on the new 23952. RAM has been increased from 64 megabytes on the 2380 to 128 megabytes on the new 2395. These two component upgrades are important to laser printing capabilities for many reasons. but mainly due to: 1 Faster CPU results in less processing of more complex print jobs, especially when using built-in printer applications, cloud storage2. Increasing the amount of RAM results in less frequent communication between the printer and the computer, causing jobs to be buffered and printed faster. Also in these areas the new 2395DW has a slight advantage over the old 2380DW:1. The 2395 prints at 36ppm versus the 2380's 32ppm for both prints and copies2. Monthly maximum page usage increases from 10,000 pages per month at 2380 to 15,000 pages per month at 23953. Added smartphone near field communication to 2395DW4. Reduced energy consumption. 2395 in sleep mode - 1.2W vs 5.8W for 2380, in ready mode - 43.5W vs 60W and in print mode - 450W vs 510W. Visual changes: 1. The new 2395 has a more square shape with larger ones side handles and a thicker scanner cover. It's a personal preference here. The new 2395 has had the touch buttons removed and replaced the traditional buttons on the main control panel. Time will tell if that's good or bad. And by far the biggest difference that might put some people off is that the toner cartridges and drums for the new 2395DW compared to the old 2380DW are BRAND NEW AND EXCELLENT. New Model 2395DW REQUIRES: TN730 Standard Toner / TN760 High Yield Toner / DR730 Drum from other manufacturers, they WILL NOT WORK. in this new 2395DW! Brother have introduced the new 700 series of toners and drums for this new machine and you MUST USE the TN730 or TN770! With that clarification in mind, I decided to unbox my black laser beauty and see if it was worth the extra price. The assumption is that it's brand new and will say goodbye to inkjet printers forever: 1. Customization is a breeze. Serious. Download the latest Brother drivers from the website, click to run and follow the instructions to install USB, Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Don't use an outdated CD, leave it to an IT professional. Also, don't download and install the iPrint@Scan software, it's too bloated to be useful, ignore it.2. The printer first booted up and pulled its settings from the computer over my ethernet connection, didn't even have to adjust the time thank goodness. 3. Ethernet printing is instant and fast, but USB is also a good option if it's close to your computer. The Wi-Fi connection can be unreliable at times, it all depends on your Wi-Fi settings and the quality of the router how good or bad it will be. The printer's LCD touchscreen is responsive, clear to use and easy to read. Thankfully, Brother has retained the ability to switch END Low Toner END to CONTINUAL, which means you can drain the toner until it stops working completely and the printer won't prompt you to replace it. But print quality may suffer, so keep that in mind.6. The printer isn't quiet like most laser printers, but that's not a problem for my needs. There's a quiet print mode if you're really picky about noise, but your print speeds will be at least halved, so expect slow prints7. Even with toner save mode enabled, the prints I make are still pretty black and dark, so I recommend this mode to save toner.8. The default print and scan settings provide good print quality in my opinion. You can increase the DPI if you're picky, but it will slow down printing and scanning9. What really sucks is that Brother has done away with backlighting for the number pad and non-LCD buttons. So if you're typing in the dark, you'll have fun. CONS: Unfortunately, this printer isn't perfect and Brother made some really stupid cost-saving decisions. for this updated model, namely: 1. There is no built-in wireless network .AC, the maximum value is .N, same as the older 2380. Come on brother? Currently, Wi-Fi is the king of flexibility2. Ethernet is still only 100 megabits. What the hell? 1 Gigabit NICs currently cost pennies and there was no legitimate reason to skimp on them3. No USB 3.0? There is absolutely no reason for printers to use the old USB 2.0 anymore. All in all I was very, very happy and shocked at how fast this suction cup prints from full power mode to ready mode, especially compared to my years of waiting and waiting for damn slow and noisy inkjet printers to refill, test and prepare. this is damn wonderful! I'll miss color inkjet printers, but I won't fucking miss terrible economy, speed, noise, error recovery, horrible memories, and dark hands. due to unclogged nozzle heads! Kudos to Brother and Laser!
