Review on πŸ–₯️ Black 12" MacBook Privacy Filter by 3M (Model PFNAP001) by David Moreno

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Decreases Retina display clarity + minimally effective

I guess being first isn't always better. There were no reviews for this product so I had to be a guinea pig. Looks like the game didn't pay off. After seeing the performance of the 3M privacy filter on a colleague's Macbook Pro (non-Retina), I thought I had a pretty good product. I was wrong. At any brightness above the lowest setting, onscreen content is only minimally dimmed/dimmed and is otherwise nearly perfectly viewable from almost any angle outside of the advertised 60-degree field of view. During testing, my wife, who was almost 90 degrees off center, was able to tell me clearly what site I was on and what was appearing on the page (she knew I was writing this review on Revain). Worst of all, the screen gives the Macbook 12's formerly ultra-sharp and crisp (Retina) display an overall "grainy" quality for sensitive information. I've partially solved this problem in the past by half-closing the lid to hide my display's contents, or by sitting at the other end of a table in a conference room. I was hoping that this 3M privacy filter would be the answer, but it could actually be worse as it could create a false sense of security. I've attached a photo taken at almost a 90 degree angle to the center. If you can see from a photo that I'm on a Revain review page, what use is expected for some in your area with a clear site boundary? This is not a cheap $5 filter, I paid a good $40 which is a decent sleeve for my entire laptop. Pure disappointment.
