Fill water jets

I had a Proctor Silex a few years ago which was great. Unfortunately, he fell on a pile of bubble wrap that melted on the iron surface. I thought I ordered an exact replacement in kind, but this one is a little different. The old one had a rubber plug on the filler neck. The new one has a small door, no rubber. When you lift the iron from the ironing position to the rest position, water will spray out of the door. If you turn the iron upside down, it will spatter. Perhaps the door on that particular unit is defective.
