I am a 59 year old overweight female, 5ft 3in, about 195lbs. I have a hard time finding women's pants that are comfortable and have "real" pockets that are really useful. I often get men's trousers. Carrying a bag is not practical for me, so bags are important. I wear a lot of things. Things should stay in pockets and pants should be comfortable with things in pockets. I also need quick access to my stuff. I bought two pairs of tactical pants to compare. I like both and will keep both. The correct women's size 18 was not hemmed and I had to do that myself. I could not find a suitable combination for this gray thread color. Do-it-yourself hem is ok as I can increase the length a bit to match the pants along with the boots. CQR men's size 38x30. As you can see from the photos, both models fit very similarly. The Proper fabric is heavier and therefore hotter in the Southcentral KY summer heat and humidity. Their gray color is very different. I like the Proper color a little more than the CQR. The pocket on the right front thigh was distinctly different. My phone (iPhone XR) fits better in proper pants. The bag is just a little wider. The CQR pocket barely fits in my phone. This pocket is also beveled towards the side seam on the CQR. Because of this, it is inconvenient to sit with a mobile phone in your pocket and it is very difficult to get a phone. When you're seated, it's almost impossible to get a cell phone out of your pocket with a pair of CQRs. I can get my phone out of my pocket by sitting with the right pair. And holding the phone in your pocket while sitting is much more convenient with a pair of Propers. The inner button on the right pant is stronger and more secure. The CQR button is smaller. Both are equally difficult to attach and detach. CQR fabric is thinner. This makes them a little lighter in the summer heat. However, the material in the front pockets is also significantly thinner. I assume my gear wears out pretty quickly from this stuff. The material in the front pockets of a Proper pair is much heavier. These bags have a durable feel and I expect my items to be worn safely for longer. The tradeoff for heavier bag material is that it adds weight/bulk and makes the proper pant hotter for summer. The back pockets of the Proper pants have no flaps. They are partially closed with Velcro. I can get in with my hands fairly easily, but plant debris can get in as well. The back pockets of the CQR pants have flap closures. The small pocket on the left front thigh is smaller/narrower on the CQR pants. That means my minimal wallet is very tight. The beveled corner also makes it difficult to get your wallet out of your pocket while seated. I don't carry my magazines in this bag, I prefer a belt. My wallet is more comfortable in Proper pants and I can easily take it off while sitting. Facilitates passage through the ATM. The pockets of the CQR pants are angled at an unusual angle. I don't think this was done to make them more accessible. But having worn the BDU for many years, I'm not used to this angle and it seems strange to me. I prefer the direct positioning of the matching trouser pockets. As a result, both pants are similar in size. A pair of CQRs are lighter for the summer heat, but that can mean they don't last as long when used in the field. The right pants are hotter. As an older woman with too much fat, I also stuck to thigh-high compression stockings. This makes the Proper pants very hot outdoors. Both CQR and Proper cannot easily slide over compression stockings. Both seem to bind my knees when I sit, even when I stuff them in my pockets before sitting down. Boots. Both pairs have a gap in the back when seated, even with the seat belt on. So I need a tucked or untucked shirt with extra length. No "plumbers" for me. I give both pants five stars. I'll have to post an update in a few months after seeing how well each pant holds up to my farming and field work.
