Mixed feelings. good for security

I have had (and still have) MANY different cameras and systems. So I know pretty well what's decent and what's not. I have very mixed feelings about this. First, after assembling and turning on, you will be prompted to scan a QR code to get the app. I did this and my antivirus software warned it was a dangerous popup link so I gave up. Instead, I went to Google Play and found the app with the appropriate icon to make sure it was the right one. To set it up, you need to pair it with your 2.4GHz WiFi network. That's pretty standard for everyone. You'll also need to have the camera lens on the monitor stand scan another QR code from your phone to establish the connection. I had to shut down and close the app multiple times for it to work. After pairing, you can see what the camera sees in the app. Pros: Outstanding image quality! Serious. it is great! The lullaby feature is good and there are only a few songs to choose from, but they're decent. The night light is quiet and *just* bright enough. The intercom works well. as well as the volume controls in the application to adjust the sound coming from the camera. Baby crying, room/body temperature and motion alerts work very well. Cons: The app is pretty questionable. Not a big fan of these app-controlled Wi-Fi cameras. They are too easy to hack and invade your privacy. Good for the road but not for a kid. Even sitting 10 feet from the router (both the camera and the app) the video is VERY far behind. I mean. 30+ second delay. Thought maybe my internet was intermittent so I disabled everything else on that line and it wasn't much better. The lullabies did NOT stop. They just went on and on and on. for 20 minutes after turning them off and until finally turning everything off and doing a factory reset. My son doesn't like lullabies or white noise so that's a problem. Calibration takes almost an hour. This wouldn't be an issue if it was only once, but if you need to reset it it will be annoying. For nearly $300, there are better monitors for $150-$200 less that perform better, have the same features (maybe slightly lower image quality), don't require an app, and have a real portable monitor to test with so You don't need a phone, and you could see the kid right away instead of waiting for the application to cache. I do not recommend.

Pros
  • VERY CLEAR DISPLAY AND UNLIMITED RANGE OF CONNECTIVITY
Cons
  • Vulgarity
