Review on Sangean PR-D18GR AM/FM/Portable Digital Radio With Protective Bumper (White/Gray) by Steven Ross

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Reliable portable radio with great sound and reception

I ordered this Sangean PR-D18BK as I was looking for something to replace an old camper radio we had in our upstairs bathroom. The previous radio had a digital tuner and clock, both of which were very useful. But the sound of this radio was too hoarse, and the tuning knob became very jumpy and difficult to work with. A light touch of the tuning knob jerked me up and down the dial, making it harder and harder to find the right station. I have noted all the feedback that complemented the reception and sound quality. Sangean PR-D18BK. I totally agree with these reviews. This radio is extremely sensitive, more so than any radio in my house including my Onkyo home stereo (which works very well). Sangean is as good as my car radio. The sound of this radio is very balanced and rich. It has a good amount of treble without being overly bright and a decent amount of bass for a small speaker. Not even on AM, which of course isn't a decent sounding band anymore (compared to the 1950-1970's when AM was in the top 40 radio bands and radios had good sounding AM tuners, even AM stereo in the early 1980's), This radio still has decent AM sound and great sensitivity. As for FM, here in Denver I like to listen to the FM station, which unfortunately is only 99 watts and is on the other side of town. Even though it's on Lookout Mountain (where most of Denver's stations are located), the signal strength is so weak that it barely reaches the southeastern part of the city where I live. It's the only radio in my house that easily picks up a station, again on par with my car radio. If one of my radios fails, I'll probably get another one of these. I am very happy with the Sangean PR-D18BK.
