McDavid makes very good products. This ankle support is what they call "level 1 protection" or almost no protection. It's more of a compression bandage than anything else. My podiatrist recommended that I switch to one of these products as I complete treatment for a sprained peroneal tendon and begin to ramp up my training (I'm a runner and have twisted my ankle too many times). These shoes run small. I wear a men's size 9 and this size is enough to provide decent compression. For those who are curious, the sizes are divided into: Large / Mens / Womens Small / 6-9 / 7-10Medium / 9-11 / 10-12Large / 11-13 / 12-14XL / 14+ / 15+ Seam in the middle of the foot . It's not that scary though. I'm used to it.
