I bought this flashlight to try another LED that was only white but didn't like it because the tank looked so sick. Because LEDs can display multiple colors, even when set to "White" there is some color in the light. You must be within sight of the portion of the power cord that holds the IR receiver for the remote to respond. (It took me a while to figure that out) and the remote control is the same as the color changing LED lights you buy. This means that you will not use some functions with fish (flash light, etc.). a Halloween yard display or to illuminate artwork or figurines it could be used there as well.
