My wife's family uses very hard mattresses at home. It's exactly what they prefer, but I can't sleep well and it gives me all kinds of lower back pain in the mornings. Instead of buying a new mattress, we tried this one. It helped a lot in softening the bed which gave me a better night's sleep. A few things people should be aware of. 1. Ours are slightly larger than queen size. It's not a problem for us, but you need to know about it. 2. While this greatly improves comfort, I still think a soft mattress is the best option. However, if you are in a situation where you cannot order a new mattress, this is the best solution. It is soft but very thick and odorless. We deliberately wanted a mattress topper that didn't smell. In general very satisfied.
