Not great, but worth the price

I have always worn expensive hand-me-down polarized sunglasses, so I never paid those high end prices. When I finally needed a new pair, and with none of my friends and family having any used giveaways on hand, I decided to try the budget market. I can definitely see a quality difference with the price difference, but for what I paid I still think these are ok, because you get a cloth bag and hard case, and a micro fiber cloth for lens cleaning. It's just that the polarization features are not as good as most of the high end glasses. These are only a little better than regular lenses. I compared them side by side on a sunny day with a cheap pair I got for $7.99 and the polarized ones were only a tiny bit better. I also wouldn't say the lens color is greenish-yellow, but more of a golden-yellow with greenish tints, and lens color affects performance for polarization. The best colors for general use are green/amber/brown/gray/smoke. I found this out the hard way. My gold/yellow dominant lenses distort color somewhat, but nothing major, just not the usual satisfaction I get from higher end polarized lenses (which come to think of it have always been green/smoke tinted). So I'm wondering if I would have liked a different lens color more, and maybe given an extra star or two, but the other colors were on frames I didn't like (I've got a weakness for tortoise shell frames). Oh well, whatever - now I'm falling down the rabbit hole; let me get the heck outta here while I still can. Finally, not that it should matter to your own face, but these glasses fit me well - nose, ears, cheekbones, fit my face width etc. - and stay in place. I can live with these and will wear them until their life is spent, but I will begin my search for better lens quality (while keeping my fingers crossed for another hand-me-down from friends or family).

Pros
  • They seem to protect my eyes from the sunl.
Cons
  • Can be expensive compared to other sunglasses
