It is a dense canvas material. keep a lot. Great for dorms.

Photo on a scale base. At 31.5 x 16 x 13.8 inches, that's 61.1 linear inches, which is less than the maximum of 62 linear inches that most carriers will accept for registration. Airlines do not allow this bag as the maximum length for most airlines is about 45 linear inches and if you fill it completely it will not fit in the baggage compartment. You may be able to get away with partially filled luggage. It's also harder for airlines to tell if your luggage is oversized if it's flexible rather than rigid. You have to be careful, you can easily pack enough stuff in there to break the airline 50lb weight limit. It's stronger than many bags of this type, but not as strong as a real suitcase. We use these bags for a variety of purposes: college-age kids use them to carry things back and forth on the plane between home and school. Because they are foldable, they are easy to store in a dorm room. We often pack things in boxes (thanks Revain!) and put those boxes in a bag to transport fragile items. Line the boxes with clothes. Then throw away the boxes when you arrive at your destination, fold your suitcase and slide it anywhere in the hostel. Like an extra suitcase when travelling. We use it as dirty clothes during the trip and as extra luggage on the way back if needed. This type with backpack straps is useful for this purpose. Storing things in storage units between semesters. You can put bedding, pillows, and a mattress topper inside, and they provide some protection from dust and critters while being stored. A couple of these bags moved back and forth around the Southwest half a dozen times with no problem.
