UPDATED REVIEW (see original review below): After wearing these glasses every night for weeks I can honestly say that they have changed my life! I increased my star rating from 2 stars (because they are too narrow and give me a headache - see original review below) to 4 stars because they solved a serious insomnia problem that has plagued me for decades. I can't give them 5 stars because they really are quite painful, but an hour of discomfort each night before bed is a small price to pay for a healthy, drug-free night that just keeps getting better, the longer I use them. Barely three weeks later, I'm really starting to believe that this is a legitimate and PERMANENT TREATMENT for my insomnia. I haven't had a single sleepless night since I put them on for the first time. Over the years I've tried different methods of falling asleep, but the results have been disappointing. Most "natural" remedies don't help me at all. My body doesn't give a damn about sleeping herbs like hops and valerian. And melatonin pills work well for about a night or two before losing their potency. Pharmaceutical sleeping pills are addictive and make me so nauseous that I end up staying up all night throwing up. Then I feel overwhelmed during the day. There is absolutely nothing better than sleep you get from the hormones your body produces firsthand, and these red contact lenses do it just fine. But they seem to be getting more and more effective with each passing night! I'm 65 years old and haven't slept like this in almost 50 years (maybe more). So, a little headache an hour before bed seems to be less and less of an issue as I reap the benefits of deep, extended sleep that literally reverses some of my chronic health issues. I copy/paste the answer I posted in the comment below. how I use them at night with my reading glasses. I didn't want to buy overshoes because I knew I needed a foam barrier to keep LIGHT from entering through the sides. I really believe that the key to my success wearing it is that my eyes are ONLY exposed to the red light coming through the lenses. I can't find anything that fits, but I've found that my little readers can wear these red glasses OVER instead of underneath. I really have to sit still, but it's not that hard if I just sit and read. Haven't found any other brands but haven't tried them yet. I'm used to how they fit so an hour is fine. They still hurt, but not as much as before. One day I fell asleep in it and woke up feeling very bad. In general, you still can not do without it, but I would like something more comfortable. Good luck with your insomnia. I've been sleeping THREE HOURS a night for 30 years and since wearing them I've slept an average of 7-9 hours a night! Court!" ORIGINAL REVIEW - October 19, 2019: I kind of LOVE these glasses, but I DON'T LOVE them. I suffer from insomnia and eye fatigue due to too much blue light and too much screen time. For a while I tried wearing glasses wearing amber lenses to reduce eye strain when working on a computer and get rid of insomnia. The amber color significantly reduces eye strain, but it doesn't get rid of insomnia permanently. I needed more than amber. Then I learned that RED glasses are the best way to stimulate the production of melatonin in the brain and body. So I bought them immediately. THEY WORK! These glasses made me so sleepy that I fell asleep easily from the first night. The amazing padding around the lenses closes my eyes so no other light enters. When I wake up at night to go to the bathroom, or even after the sun has come up and I want to go back to bed, I just put my red glasses back on and turn on the bedroom light. Red lenses let me see where I'm going, but nothing wakes me up, even with the morning sun shining through the bathroom window. I can sleep in if I want. The only problem is that the temples and temple tips on the frames are VERY HARD AND NONESTIC. THEY dig into my head and hurt so much! The headphones are not flexible, so they put a lot of pressure on the temples and the back of the ears. After wearing them for a while, I get headaches and nausea, so I can't wear them as long as I want. I prefer to put them on when the sun goes down and wear them until bedtime. But they are too painful to do so comfortably. So my solution is to wear amber from sunset until about an hour before bed and then switch to red. I can endure discomfort for an hour, and that's how long it takes me to fall asleep in it. I hope they loosen up over time or I get used to them. If wearing it still hurts I will return them and buy another brand of red contact lenses that are more comfortable. It would be better, when the hinges have such a spring feature that allows the goggles to gently adjust to the size of your head while keeping it secure. But in this case, the frame is rigid and painful. If they cause a headache after a few weeks I'll send them back for a refund. I might look for red glasses with a soft elastic strap. It would be relaxing. Bedtime is not the time to torture yourself. So I love love LOVE that you've helped my lifelong insomnia. I love my sleep so much that I can endure pain for an hour a day. But I really HATE the pain they cause so much, especially knowing well made glasses have spring hinges, that eliminates painful pressure headaches. At that price, they should have built the springs into the hinges. Conclusion: Red lenses work, but there are other brands with more comfortable designs. My rating: five stars because they work and work well. I am deducting three stars for the pain they caused, that is: TWO STARS. If you are sensitive to pressure from rigid frames, I would advise you to skip these and order another brand with flexible spring loops from Temple Pieces. especially knowing that well-made goggles have a spring loop that eliminates painful pressure headaches.
