Advertised as top grain or full grain leather. It's not, the stamp on the back is like real leather. This is the third lower quality skin out of the other two I mentioned. That's why it's so hard and plastic. Genuine leather is the leather that is left after the upper has been removed to obtain the highest quality leather. It is more man made as it is manipulated, polished and died to remove imperfections. I'll keep it as the price is ok but I won't buy it again for what I wanted. I'm a size 42 so I ordered a size 44 and it was the same size as my other size 42 belts. In fact there may be two big ones as I'm on the penultimate hole from the buckle.
