Failed - Cables and Connections

Failed. I tried connecting my Lenovo laptop to the iMac screen and followed all the steps but I couldn't get it to appear on the screen. Shut down both machines, connect the laptop to the iMac cable, start the laptop and iMac, use the F2 command key to bring the display to the iMac, but it didn't work.
