Review on DROK Multimeter Voltmeter Transformer Two Wires by Centerfold Montague

Excellent solution for load monitoring of generator circuits

I needed a voltage and current control solution for my generator that is connected to my main lock. I wanted a solution next to the panel and not at the generator so I can see exactly how much I'm stressing the generator when I turn on each circuit. If you're unfamiliar with the interlock, it's an electrician-installed safety interlock switch that requires the incoming main circuit to be disconnected before the generator circuit can be energized - which then powers the entire panel in your generator. can handle the load. My electrician installed a 30 amp 220 volt circuit at a panel and outlet outside the home and an interlock specific to my panel type. The new counter only works when the panel is in generator mode and the generator is supplying power. I bought two Drok counters and a box to install them, it turned out well I think as you can see in the picture. This is a meter that shows each side of the panel and the usage for each 10 amp and 12 amp (with almost everything except the dryer). By installing two counters, I can better balance the load. With a panel, turning on the 120V circuit only affects one side of the panel, if you have 220V devices, both. Visibility is excellent and I checked the AMP readings and found them to be very close to my handheld ammeter. Installation: Please note that this installation should only be performed by an electrician or someone familiar with the main panel being removed and live. Installation wasn't difficult, just careful planning. Installing ammeters requires the coils to be run around the wires leading to the generator switch. This means that the wires must be disconnected from the switch, inserted through the coil and reconnected to the switch. Under normal conditions these wires are not hot, only hot when the generator is running so no need to worry but you can turn off the main switch just in case. I found a good spot where the power wires were outdoors to make a small indentation in the wire to hold the coil in place. The voltmeter needed a connection to the same hot wire and a second wire to the neutral/ground bus. It was a more complex connection, requiring two wires to be reinserted into the switch and a place found on the busbar for the other. My only negative feedback on the product is that the wires that came with the kit were VERY short and need to be lengthened. I used thin single wire (left over from installing the garage door) as the wires have very little current. I soldered every connection and used heat shrink tubing to prevent short circuits. Installation took about 30 minutes to cut the box and 60 minutes to connect the wires to the panel, working carefully. As a side note, I also purchased a Westinghouse WGen9500DF portable dual fuel generator from Revain and am very happy with it. At 8500 watts on propane it has enough power for that 30 amp trap circuit.

Pros
  • Special Design - DROK voltage and current tester has a built-in trimmer potentiometer, which makes it easy to calibrate the meter. The back cover made it safer to use.
Cons
  • Functionality
