As a former REI employee, I have bought many Merrell sneakers for decades. This particular boot was purchased and in less than two months with my custom made orthotics it was wearing down so much on the outside of the heels that I required a chiropractic adjustment to correct the resulting back pain. I contacted Merrell customer service directly with order information and some photos of the defect and waited three weeks for a response. Eventually I emailed them again and they apologized for not replying but blamed my "difficult walking in heels" for the defect but they assured me it was not a product defect. To their credit they offered me a 20% discount on my next pair of Merrels. Based on their support answer there probably won't be another pair of Merrells. Brooks will be my next purchase.
