Review on πŸ”³ Camco 40172 Replacement Vent Lid in Black Polycarbonate: Durable and Break Resistant by Victor Halla

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Beautiful, strong, easy to install

The vent cover on my two year old caravan was so bad it fell apart and had to be replaced. Instead of paying big bucks to take it to a repair shop, I decided to look online for a few options. I started with the $10 version but saw it first and thought it cost a little more for a heavier and more durable product. I'm happy with that decision - this item was immediately noticeably stronger and more durable than the one I was replacing. The shape is a bit more boxy but still fits the hole well and seals well. Installation took about 15 minutes, and I spent most of my time looking for a long, thin screwdriver that would be good for removing the two screws that hold the screen in place. It was a fairly simple process - loosen the 4 bolts holding the shroud inside and then loosen the bolt holding the crank in place. Then 2 screws holding the screen in place (I needed a longer screwdriver here than my Leatherman) and finally 2 screws holding the handle in place so it can slide and separate the lever from the cover. From there it was necessary to lift the needle nose pliers up to the roof to bend back the end to remove the old vent and attach the new one. Once it was in place I used pliers to bend the small metal ends to hold it in place, put the crank back in the slot and went back to replace all the screws. Got a nice, snug fit - it hugs the gasket all the way around and feels a lot tighter than what I had before. I hope I don't have to do this again for many years.
