I think this vest is best for hikes where it's uncomfortable or impossible to change when it gets wet, or when you need clothes that dry easily when you sweat or get water wet. The vest is light, so it doesn't keep you warm. What it offers is a hood that rolls into the collar when not in use and can protect your head and neck when needed. This vest also has pockets - 2 front upper chest pockets and 2 side pockets. Each of the two side pockets has a zipper that can be opened wider or narrower depending on the user's preference. The front closes with a zipper, and if desired there are 2 drawstrings to tighten the vest. My rating is 5 stars because it's great as rural hiking gear that's cool when it's hot but can dry pretty quickly to stay warm.
