This is exactly what I was looking for in a checkbook: something functional, well made and unassuming to look at. This is a simple, no-frills checkbook holder. Aside from a very small pocket that you can slip something thin like a credit card in, it's pretty much the same as the free cheap vinyl cases you get at the bank. However, your skin is very comfortable. It's stretchy, soft to the touch and has proven to be quite durable so far. I think he'll most likely get scratched if he's abused, but I haven't encountered any difficulties in that regard. Another reviewer mentioned having to trim the back of his plaids to fit. I have also had this experience. This took about 12 seconds. Dimensions and interior layout seem completely standardized to me, almost like check book holders. I think the difference in finishing the back of the check with this check book holder is that leather doesn't stretch or flex like vinyl. I suspect that over time I will see a little more recoil and this will no longer be a problem. It's the least of your inconveniences, and certainly better than the checks slipping out because the envelope wasn't tight enough. All in all, if you are looking for a basic check book holder with quality leather and an understated look at a very reasonable price, this is a solid choice. UPDATE Having had this for over a year now I can attest that the leather has softened enough that new checks can be easily fitted without the need to cut the backing. Holds up very well.
