Size XL is perfect for my 13 Maltichon (Bichon Frize mix). I love that it closes with 4 buttons compared to cheap velcro (velcro tends to catch on my dog's fur and cause tangles), the waist belt is a nice touch and keeps clothes on my dog's tummy, so he's free to pee when I need it so the fabric doesn't get in the way and doesn't trap his urine (this happens when the clothes I buy him are too loose around the stomach area). However, the description states that the robe is "made of the highest quality cotton," which is not true. As you can see from my photo of the composition of the fabric the label says it's made from cheap 100% polyester which is disappointing although it might help for better wicking as it feels like a microfiber drying towel but I would prefer to know that it is not cotton as described.
