I bought these a few years ago and have changed the filter inside from time to time. They now sell the entire unit for about the same price as replacement filters. It seems wasteful and environmentally unsustainable to throw away the whole box every time. It works to filter chlorine. Haven't noticed any difference to the replacement filter yet. The best thing about this filter is that hot water won't damage it, so you can have a hot shower. Since my city's plumbing system contains a lot of chlorine, I find that the filter keeps my hair from fading and reduces the number of bras I wear. It also leaves my skin less dry and irritated. A new multifunction device tends to be phased out. Be sure to use Teflon tape on both joints. No tools are required other than tape.
