I bought this vest to replace a 3 year old Salomon Adv Skin 12 that was finally coming to an end after over 3500 miles of heavy use; The final point of failure in this case was the side zipper on the main back pocket. Most of my comments are based on my experience with this vest and the visible improvements made to this version. The Adv Skin 12 has been my favorite all-season mountain running vest since I bought it. It holds a ton of stuff and keeps most of it handy while running, no problem with snacks and lunch, water filters, microstuds, extra clothing if the conditions call for it - even a tire repair kit for my bike and a small bag for junk. from the remote mountain camps I've brought, they all fit in this backpack as needed, along with plenty of water. The pistons appear to be an improvement over previous models. They are slightly larger (500ml vs 450ml), have much larger lids and much larger openings at the top. This sounds a bit counterintuitive unless you've had previous bottles and learned how difficult it is to keep them clean. I've had time to clean the mold from using sports drink bottles. I assume larger openings are much easier to maintain. Bottles also rise higher on the vest, making them easier to touch when moving. The rear hydration pocket has stayed pretty much the same, although the loop closure is a bit more complicated (which is definitely a good thing). All in all, this backpack can carry 3 liters of water with more comfort than ever before, especially because it balances the weight between the front and back. Some features have been redesigned; in particular, I noticed that the straps slapped a lot less, which is definitely for the better. The rear compartment has bungee cords that tighten depending on the load, which is also a good choice. The functions of the various straps and cords are also mostly more obvious, at least to me. The front drawstring that keeps the vest closed at the chest is definitely different. It is a single long cord woven into loops on one side and going through hooks on the other side, as opposed to two hooked cords that go into loops on the other side. In any case, this has the positive advantage that the fit can be easily adjusted with a single slider, even while moving, but it makes zipping up the vest more difficult. It's a little disappointing, the old version was comfortable in warm weather but like many vests it was difficult to manipulate in cold weather with stiff fingers; This one is finicky even when warm, I expect it will cause scolding at times when trying to put it back on for a cold run after lunch. Another highlight is the small garbage bag in the front kangaroo pocket for wraps (great idea!) and some places where the seams have been significantly reinforced compared to the previous model, including the upper area of the front pockets. I've never had a problem blowing out the pockets of my old ones, but the extra durability isn't anything I'm complaining about. Salomon packs are skin tight and feel great even on steep, technical terrain. I've had many backpacks and this is definitely the most comfortable when it comes down to it. Of course, when you need that much room to carry in your running vest, you'll have enough on your plate without worrying about the vest chafing after the shower. I've had one like that before and really liked it. I bought another one and the new one looks just as good or even better. If you think this is a good running vest for what you love to do, it probably is.
