Totes is Toast: Umbrellas

The parade of once great American brands continues. A few years ago I was fed up with cheap Shenzhen umbrellas crumpled by the first gusts of wind, so I bought a set of more expensive bags for my family, including a "premium" version of this transparent bubble umbrella. It is very disappointing that all either rusted or failed just a little longer than generics. The only saving grace was the warranty, which Totes honored, but it wasn't that convenient. Now, a few years later, I thought I would give the dead bubble another try for our daughter. I only realized after the fact that this is a "budget" option. Bubble Umbrella Mockup. The premium model wasn't as premium anymore, and in terms of materials and construction, this model is significantly inferior to the older one. If you read the spec sheet carefully or read my review, you'll see that instead of an acrylic pen and tip, it has a cheap, lightweight plastic pen and tip as advertised. And to top it all off, the internal mechanism is now made from the same cheap plastic. My guess is that they chose to spoil the product with cheaper plastic to solve the problem of rust and breakage instead of using a better alloy. To be honest, it's not even that cheap. why wouldn't totes just improve on the original for a higher price? This "budget" model is not worth the cost of buying "totes". So now I see absolutely no reason to buy another Totes umbrella. The cycle is complete. Like so many other formerly respected brands, the Harvard-style MBA geniuses who run these machines have monetized every last drop of brand credibility, and I'll venture with a better quality Da-Fong or Fei direct from China. -Ma or any other brand. I'd rather buy an American one (with an American workforce, not an American financier), but I won't fool around for long.
