Take my advice: just remove the HVAC controls from the dash and move them inside where you have more room to work. Likewise. These are universal bulbs, you need to take a razor blade and cut off the little hook that is attached to the HVAC board. DO NOT use a screwdriver to tighten new bulbs. Use pliers. I promise it will be a lot easier. It feels like you're going to break something when you tighten them. In the end everything works.
