I didn't expect to use this product before winter to protect my dog's paws. But he has a very itchy summer. All summer he gnawed his paws on something wild like never before. He went to the vet a month ago and got an allergy shot and although he had some improvement after the shot he is still chewing/licking. Two days ago he tore off some of the black padding on his paw from licking/chewing. Of course it made him lick/chew some more! My first impulse was to put hydrocortisone cream on him but then decided against it because he licked it off and I didn't want him to swallow it. Instead I washed the area well with soap and water first and then applied some Smart Kitty/Smart Fido Vitamin E Cream to his paw. The cream has a pleasant, light smell. Reminds me of the smell of sunscreen. It was easy to apply to his leg and I continued to clean the area and reapply twice a day for the past 2 days. The injury has almost completely disappeared. It also doesn't bother him when I use it. He made an attempt to lick it off the first time I applied it, but I wouldn't let him. Every time I put it on I stay in it for at least 15 minutes to let it dry and work and not lick. It worked very well for him. I haven't used it on cats yet, but will certainly do so if the need arises. I am very happy with the results after using this on a mac paw along with soap/water!
