XL is nice and big for our chubby!
My dog has a 27 inch neck (mostly loose skin, thick, large English Lab). We bought the size XL and it fits perfectly... left a bit loose and there is still room if I need to expand! I just wanted a tighter collar as his neck hides everything 1 inch and under so this is perfect. The velcro is amazing and you can adjust it as you like. Definitely do it and it looks expensive. I needed a grip when other aggressive dogs passed us and I can make sure he doesn't run around as he is a very friendly dog.
