I bought this to replace a crumbling old plug on my basement drain cleaning. The inside measurement of the pipe is about 3.5 inches (maybe a little less with all that old rusty dirt in the pipe) and this cap did NOT fit. Many other reviews here have stated that it is perfect for 3.5 inches. pipes, but I haven't found this to be the case. However, in about 15 minutes with a bit of swearing, I got it working. I cut off the rubber gasket with a paper knife and adjusted it to size. I also had to use my jigsaw on the bottom plastic piece to remove about 0.25" to make it fit. After that it slid well and tensioned with no problems. This may work well for a newer design, but not for my house made denominations 1930's and oddly large old pipes A 3" cap would not have been appropriate for drain cleaning so I'm glad I got this one.
