The first sewing project I tried I had to alter. I've never had to change a pattern, but after consulting friends and watching a few online tutorials, I settled on this ruler. I didn't go for the clear plastic version of the Dritz because, according to reviews, the Dritz has yet to discover the unbreakable ruler technology I enjoyed as a high school student in the 1990's. The metal equivalent worked well and I've used it recently to modify the pattern with great success. This one has inches on both sides, although it looks like centimeters in the picture. If you can get past its unconventional form, customizing the templates will do the trick.
