I have had several pocket handsets in the past but this is the best. Most others had a built-in speaker that sounded like metal but was fine for talking, baseball games, and similar programming. All I've done from an AM perspective is make sure it works. I bought this radio for FM service and couldn't be happier. With one exception, the bass boost is too aggressive. Probably many like it, but the problem is that with the boost turned off, the bass is too bad. So I prefer to listen with amplification. However, the stations sound so clear and the radio so good that I can live with the bloated bass boost. It would be nice to have at least two boost levels to choose from. The other small radio I have that doesn't have a speaker is the small Sony wristband model, which is known for how well this wristband works, but its FM performance is lower. noisy with all signals, even with strong ones. Far from this league. Of course, the DT-160 uses the latest DSP technology, which makes a big difference in reception. My home has some reception issues due to the terrain, power lines, and many electronic devices. Tuners have a hard time here. This radio picks up locals cleanly as it should, but many models don't do it well. I really didn't expect that, so I'm very satisfied. I may come back later and edit this review to account for the AM performance, but the truth is I have a few other radios (a bit more) for my AM dxing and I don't expect this to be a strong AM -Competitor is based on other reviews elsewhere. If you're looking for a small radio to listen to music over FM radio this will be hard to beat - and it's very reasonably priced given its great specs. Remember that your headphone wires are an antenna, and if you hear noise due to a very weak signal, move the wire. I bought it in white along with a pair of white Sony MDRZX100 headphones (also from Revain) for a nice coordinated look. I just received the radio yesterday and I'm already excited. Small, light and functionally excellent, what's not to like? TO UPDATE. I have used this radio extensively for three and a half years and it still looks, feels, works and sounds like new. I'm just an FM user. Well, the rare baseball airs once or twice a year. But this radio is designed to give good stereo FM sound, whether through headphones or through a garage system. In addition to good reception and sound, you get a radio that lasts a very long time on a few batteries. I love this model and can only recommend it.
