This is a good high stool for those who have rather high tables; I have a 32" tall Futuro drafting table in the horizontal position and this stool is too big for it even in the lowest position. The stool is so comfortable and supportive that I tuck 1 inch risers under the table legs. than to return the chair. The top of the seat on the stool measures 24 inches in the lowest position and reaches 27-1/2 inches in the highest position - this is the top of the seat so it sags a bit under the user's weight. It doesn't compress much, however, as the seat, while very comfortable, is not very spongy at all. The seat has a very firm, supportive feel and the mesh back is well shaped and positioned for back support. All controls, wheels etc work smoothly and the stool looks good. I'm a watercolor painter and I find that the extra height gives me a better view of my work as I can keep my desk top flat. I'm 5'7" but small, so consider your height and the height of the tabletop when choosing a stool. It was packaged fairly well and was easy to assemble in about 5 minutes. Minimal smell of foam and seat materials I've had it for about 4 months now and am very happy with the seat.
