Legs fixed with pins and adjustable with pins. Unfortunately the pins are so rigid that I have no chance of ever being able to have four straight legs and therefore a straight stool. It took me about 10-15 minutes to fix the first leg. It took me another 45 minutes to refold that leg. I had to find a piece of metal hard enough to push the pin in to unlock it. When the pin was pressed the leg caught on the metal rod I was using and wouldn't disengage. I played this song and danced over and over again for about 45 minutes trying to bend my leg. After that I gave up. I have no intention of using a stool. Too difficult to lock and unlock. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this product.
